LWC Community Radio Service

December 7, 2024 Radio Poll

The December 7th radio poll of Safety Captains, BOD members, staff and residents was conducted on the new LWC Community Radio Service from the Crow’s Nest in the Rec Center on channel 15. Radio team member Michael Tomlinson conducted the poll and reported that the new system performed well above the baseline of the former system. Michael was able to hear and be heard “loud and clear” by everyone who called in throughout the community, with just a few exceptions where adjustments need to be made to individual radios.

We had invited Michael Dane with the City of Depoe Bay’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to call in, and were pleased with the high quality transmission we had with him as well as with several members of the Safety Committee for the View of the Bay community on the hill. While we may be physically separated from our neighbors north of the bridge in a worst case scenario, being able to communicate and relay information through the EOC will be a valuable resource.

January 4, 2025 Radio Poll

The next radio poll will be Saturday, January 4th on Channel 15. Residents are encouraged to call in to test their radios and to practice listening and speaking on their radio.

Please follow these guidelines for listening and speaking on the radio.

7.0 Magnitude Off-shore Earthquake Strikes Northern CA 12/5/24

(Excerpt from Los Angeles Times article)

“The California tsunami danger is real. The 7.0 off-shore earthquake is a wake-up call to be prepared.

Fear, anxiety and confusion swept across the West Coast on the morning of December 5, 2024 when a tsunami warning was issued for parts of Northern California and southern Oregon following a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that occurred 55 miles off the shore of Eureka CA (325 miles south of Depoe Bay). It’s a reminder to prepare and know how to respond in case of such emergencies.”

LWC Community Radio Service

We are excited to launch our new radio system, LWC Community Radio Service, operating on Channel 15 from the Crow’s Nest on the 3rd floor of the Rec Center. This announcement explains What, Why, and When we are changing and what you need to do to change your radio from channel 7 to channel 15. We will monitor both channels during the transition period.

If you do not own a two-way radio, please consider buying a Midland T 51 X-Talker, available at the Lincoln City Bi-Mart and online. Joining LWC’s network of residents who are connected to our radio system, and receiving accurate and current information during emergency situations while staying in your home is central to our community’s goal to encourage all residents to be safe and self-reliant.

Please talk to your Safety Captain if you need assistance with buying or setting up a radio, and email <abradley342@yahoo.com>with your questions and comments.
